I’m sitting at Porcelain, getting my hair changed, and Muzamil is with me, learning the entire dye process. I don’t know about anyone else, but for me, there is one thing that directly affects my confidence and how I feel: my hair. That’s why I keep switching it up. I’ve had black hair, purple hair that eventually turned blonde, and recently caramel highlights that so many of you showed love for. But today, I want something lighter, something with a little rose gold magic.

The real reason behind the change

I’ve been changing a few things about myself and about my life lately. So of course, my hair had to come along. It’s not just about the color. It’s about that feeling of walking out of the salon with soft, untouched hair and a new vibe. Muzamil, who is usually the one driving me to these appointments, is on a mission today. He is actually learning the technique, foil by foil.

Watching him figure it out is half the fun

While Fatima works on my sections, Muzamil is trying to decode the process. He watches her hold a strand from the end, then carefully fold it into the foil. “This is intricate work,” he says, suddenly realizing the patience it takes. He asks about the tones. Is it golden or metallic? The swatch we chose has a soft rose gold effect mixed with caramel. It’s the kind of color that makes sense when summer is on its way. I love that he’s so into it, even if he jokes that the brightness might make him blind. Small moments like this, a husband genuinely paying attention to what makes his wife happy, they matter.

A magic ingredient and a chestnut base

Before we get to the highlights, my base is changed to a chestnut brown. It’s a very pretty color on its own, if someone just wants a rich, warm tone. Then comes the magic ingredient, a protector that makes sure my hair stays safe through all the lightning. I look funny with the foils piled up, but I feel perfectly at ease. When you’ve been doing this for years, you know that a little discomfort at the salon chair is worth the reveal.

The moment of truth

The blow-dry is done and I finally see it. I’m glad I went lighter. The tones are beautiful, exactly that rose gold I was after, and my hair feels super soft, like nothing ever touched it. Muzamil is still processing how much work goes into one head of hair. “You hold it down with a great circle for the ball,” he attempts to explain, and I can’t help but laugh. He tried, and that’s what counts.

I don’t believe in regretting a hair change. Every version of my hair has been a reflection of a season in my life. This one feels like a breath of air. If your hair is your confidence dial, never be afraid to twist it.
